Why Your Business Still Needs a Professional Website (Even With Social Media)

A good website is always a front door, even today, with everyone on social media. Many businesses think an Instagram profile is enough, but a social media page and a website serve different purposes, and that difference shows up exactly at the moment a visitor decides whether to trust a brand or not.

What a website does that social media doesn't

  • You show up on Google: when someone searches your brand's name or the service you offer, it's your website that appears in search results. A social media profile doesn't occupy that space the same way.
  • Owned ground, not rented: a social network can change its algorithm, limit your reach, or even shut down; your website and your domain are yours, with full control over what stays live.
  • Identity without template limits: social networks follow the platform's visual standard; a website can look exactly like the brand, however it needs to.
  • Works 24 hours: a well-built website informs, qualifies, and even sells without depending on someone being online to respond.

The Pousada Bambuza case: a full website as a front door

Pousada Bambuza's previous website was outdated and not responsive, even though most of its traffic came from mobile, a critical problem for guests researching accommodations on their phones. Visually, it also failed to convey the elegance and tranquility that make the inn a retreat on Guaraqueçaba Bay.

The rebuild took a mobile-first approach, with serif typography and a warm, neutral palette that echoes the surrounding nature. The site gained full-width photography of the house rising over the bay, dedicated sections for the rooms, gallery, and regional attractions (like Salto Morato Nature Reserve and Superagui National Park) plus real TripAdvisor testimonials, with direct booking via WhatsApp, no intermediaries.

The result is a fast, fully responsive website with a strong experience on any screen (especially mobile, the dominant access channel) that faithfully conveys the inn's calm atmosphere and directly supports the booking decision.

When a landing page is the right format: the Teletex case

Not every need calls for a full institutional website. Over more than four years as Senior Marketing Analyst at Teletex IT Solutions, I supported the CyberX and CyberCare brands' communication with design, video production, and landing pages, including CyberCare's institutional page and a campaign landing page aimed at the financial sector. Those materials sustained the brand's presence at industry events like Febraban Tech, Mind The Sec, CIO Cerrado, and Splunk Day.

It's an example of how a landing page plays a more focused role: a page built for a specific goal (a campaign, a product, an event) while the institutional website works as the brand's permanent home.

A good website doesn't compete with social media, it complements it

Social media builds relationships and reach day to day; a website converts and sustains brand credibility long-term. As RD Station points out, even with your own fully-owned website, the recommendation is to keep your other digital presences active to spread content and generate more leads.

In the end, the question isn't "social media or website": it's making sure your brand has both playing the right role.
